My promise to Linton Garner

My great friend Linton Garner, Erroll’s older brother, asked me to promise that I would make my collection of interviews available to all who were interested. I agreed and, thus, this project.

Although I spent only a short time with pianist, composer and arranger Mary Lou Williams, her mission “to save jazz” impacted me profoundly. Not only was she the only musician to have lived and played through all the eras of jazz, but more importantly, she brought a feeling and healing quality to her music with an invitation to “Close your eyes and listen with the ears of your heart.”
